Ingredients you will need

a picture of the ingredients you will need for Banana Whipped Cream Frosting
  • Heavy Whipping Cream: Heavy Whipped Cream works best for this frosting. You could use regular Whipped Cream in an absolute pinch but the heavy whipping cream will whip up better and creates a sturdier frosting.
  • Banana Cream Pudding Mix: You will need one of the small packages of regular (not sugar free) pudding mix. If you can’t find a small box of banana pudding use 1/2 cup of pudding mix from the larger box.
  • Powdered Sugar: as a sweetener.

How to Make

collage showing the steps to make the frosting
  1. Add the Heavy Whipping Cream to a chilled mixing bowl. (The chilled bowl will help the whipping cream thicken faster. Turn mixer on high and mix until soft peaks form.
  2. Add the Powdered Sugar and continue to mix at a high speed.
  3. Just before you get to stiff peaks add the Banana Pudding  Mix and then on slow speed, mix whipping cream and pudding.
  4. When the frosting starts to come together, stop the mixer and scrape down the sides of the bowl. Also, check to make sure the pudding hasn’t clumped on the bottom of the bowl.

You don’t want to overmix this frosting or it will lose its light and fluffy texture. At this point you should fold the frosting a couple of times with a spoon, turn the mixer back on for just a few revolutions … and that’s it. All done!

How Much Frosting will you need?

cupcakes and a decorating bag filled with Banana Whipped Cream Frosting

How much frosting will you need?  That always depends on how thick or thin you apply the frosting or how much decorating you do but here are a couple of guidelines. Our recipe should make enough Banana Whipped Cream Frosting to cover a 9″ x 13″ sheet cake or a two-layer 8″ cake.  If you are making cupcakes, you should be able to frost 24 cupcakes if you apply the frosting with a knife.  If you swirl on the frosting with a pastry bag like we have done here, you should be able to frost 15-18 cupcakes depending on the size of the swirl.
