How to Make the Batter for the Brownie Layer

Collage image showing how to make the brownie batter.

Step 1: Our Peanut Butter Brownie Cupcakes start with your favorite brand of Brownie Mix.  We love Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Brownie Mix but any brownie mix will do. Make up the brownie batter according to the directions on the back of the box.
Step 2: Add a spoonful of brownie mix to the cupcake liners.  The brownie batter should only go about 1/3 of the way up the cupcake liner.  You want more cupcake batter than brownie batter in the cupcake liners.

Steps 3-4: Now make up a box of yellow cake according to the directions on the back of the box with two exceptions: add vanilla and peanut butter along with the other ingredients as detailed in the recipe below.

Building the Layered Cupcakes

Step 5: Now cover the brownie batter with the peanut butter cupcake batter.
Step 6: Bake the cupcakes as you normally would, for 18-20 minutes in a 350-degree oven. You’ll have some brownie batter left over … we filled up some cupcake liners and make ourselves some mini brownie cupcakes. Yum!

Step 7: While the cupcakes cool, make a batch of our The Best Chocolate Buttercream Frosting to top your Peanut Butter Brownie Cupcakes.  It is easy to make and so delicious.  You will find the recipe and detailed instructions on how to make it here.
