If you are from the south you have Sweet Potato Pie instead of Pumpkin Pie.  We are from California, we have always had Pumpkin Pie. In fact, we had never tasted one until a few years ago. Ummm … we might have been doing holiday pies wrong all these years. We have to say that Homemade Sweet Potato Pie might taste a smidge bit better than Pumpkin Pie. And we LOVE Pumpkin Pie. This is the Sweet Potato Pie recipe we make now … we hope you enjoy it as much as our family does.

Step 8: Crimp the edges of the pie crust and lightly brush the inside of the pie crust with an Egg White wash. (This will act as a barrier between the pie filling and the pie crust and help avoid a “soggy bottom.”)

The pie is done when the sweet potato filling is no longer wobbly around the edge of the pie (about 2″ around the edge) but is still slightly wobbly in the center of the pie.  The pie will continue baking after you remove it from the oven and a cracked sweet potato pie is an over-baked sweet potato pie!
