Oh M&M’s!  How we love to use you for decorating our desserts.  So pretty.  So colorful.  So yummy.  But did you know that you have more colors to choose from than just the Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Dark Brown that are available in a regular bag of M&M’s?  If you are looking for that perfect color combination for your favorite NFL team, a colorful Flower Pretzel Bite, or an adorable Little Fishy Cupcake we can point you in the right direction!

How Many M&M Colors Are There?

A regular bag of M&M’s has all the classic colors … Red, Orange, Green, Blue, Yellow, and Dark Brown. They are available in any grocery store and you can make a lot of fun desserts just by separating the colors in a traditional bag of M&M’s.  If you need some tips on how to work with M&M’s in desserts … check out our Decorating with M&M’s post.  We have many tips and tricks on using M&M’s in desserts that we think you will find useful.

But if you have your heart set on some of the other more “unique” M&M colors, Amazon has a good selection of colored M&M’s (see the links to all the colors available in the “Shop this Post” section at the bottom of this post.) but you need to buy a 2-pound bulk bag which is a lot of M&M’s!  So if we need a smaller amount we go to our local Party City store and buy a bag of a single color (see the picture of the 7 oz bag of Dark Blue M&M’s in the image above.)

Another great resource is the special holiday “mixes” that the M&M company puts out at Valentine’s, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Every season we buy a couple of extra holiday mix bags so we can pull out some of the pretty colors for our baking projects throughout the year.

If you’ve never seen all of the colors of M&M’s that are available, we’ve made you a handy Two Sisters M&M Color Guide:
