Monkey Bread is a classic breakfast treat for a reason … warm and gooey and chocked full of cinnamon flavor this recipe is always a crowd-pleaser at a Holiday Family breakfast.  

Monkey Bread is what happens when you toss Biscuits, Butter, Cinnamon and Sugar together and toss them in the oven. It is a super sweet but very delicious pull-apart bread that is a very popular special occasion breakfast item in our family.  We love it because it is easy to make. The kids love it because you use your hands to pull piece after yummy piece off of the icing covered cinnamon loaf.  That’s a Two Sisters’ win/win where breakfast recipes are concerned!  

Ingredients you will need

  • Store-Bought Biscuits: We used Pillsbury Grands Southern Style Biscuits.  But any variety will work – pick your favorite.
  • Cinnamon:  the key ingredient in this breakfast pastry.
  • Butter: There is butter in both the Monkey Bread and the Icing. We use Sweet Cream Salted Butter.
  • Sugars: You will need Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar for the Monkey Bread and Powdered Sugar for the Icing.
  • Vanilla:  Must-have ingredient for both the Monkey Bread and the Icing.
  • Milk: just a splash for the icing.

How to Assemble Monkey Bread

  1. Separate the biscuits and cut into quarters.
  2. Melt the 1/2 cup of butter. 
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Dip a biscuit piece in the melted butter and then coat it with the sugar/cinnamon mixture.
  5. Put the cinnamon/sugar coated biscuit piece in a non-stick Bundt pan.  Keep going and layer in all of the biscuit pieces. Make sure to fill in all of the gaps.

Baking Instructions

  1. Melt the 1/4 cup of butter in a small bowl and then add the brown sugar and vanilla. Stir until the brown sugar has dissolved.
  2. Pour the mixture over the biscuits pieces in the pan.

  1. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Check after 30 mins. If it is browning too quickly, cover with foil and continue to bake.
  2. Remove from the oven. Let cool for 10 mins. and then turn the pan out onto a plate.

How to Make an Icing for your Monkey Bread

  1. Mix the melted butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a bowl until combined.
  2. Add the milk, 1 teaspoon at a time. 
  3. Continue adding milk until the icing is the correct consistency.  
  4. Pour the icing over the top of the Monkey Bread.

How to Serve

Serve the Monkey Bread warm. No need to slice it into pieces, your guests can just start pulling apart the biscuit pieces.  Fun and delicious.  What could be better?

  • 2 cans Pillsbury Grand Biscuits
  • 1/2 cup Butter (Melted, Sweet Cream Salted)
  • 1 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup Butter (Melted, Sweet Cream Salted)
  • 2/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla

Icing

  • 1 tablespoon (Melted, Sweet Cream Salted)
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1-2 teaspoons Milk

Instructions

Monkey Bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Separate the biscuits and cut into quarters.
  3. Melt the 1/2 cup of butter.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Dip a biscuit piece in the melted butter and then coat it with the sugar/cinnamon mixture.
  6. Put the cinnamon/sugar coated biscuit piece in the Bundt pan.  Keep going and layer in the biscuit pieces. Make sure to fill in gaps.
  7. Melt the 1/4 cup of butter in a small bowl and then add the brown sugar and vanilla. Stir until the brown sugar has dissolved. Pour the mixture over the biscuits pieces in the pan.
  8. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Check after 30 mins. If it is browning too quickly, cover with foil and continue to bake.

  10. Make icing and drizzle over the top.
  11. Serve while still warm.

Icing

  1. Mix the melted butter, powdered sugar and vanilla in a bowl until combined.
  2. Add the milk, 1 teaspoon at a time and mix until it is the consistency of icing.
  3. Pour over the top of the Monkey Bread.
