Kids and adults alike will love this Circus Animal Popcorn – sweet and salty popcorn that is chock full of yummy Circus Animal Cookies. A great popcorn treat that is so easy to make!

Circus Animal Cookies are a guilty pleasure of ours.  They conjure up memories of childhood and Grandma’s house and special treats.  Also … they taste good.  So they seemed like a good fit for our Sweet and Salty Popcorn series. And so … we give you Circus Animal Popcorn. and boy does it taste delicious!

Ingredients You Will Need

All the ingredients you will need to make Circus Animal Popcorn including popcorn, white chocolate melting wafers, Circus Animal Cookies, and rainbow non pareil sprinkles.

Preparing the Popcorn

Step 1: You will need 10 cups of popcorn. We pop our popcorn on the stove (you can find our directions on How to Make Perfect Popcorn here) but you can use air-popped or microwave. 
Step 2: After the popcorn is popped, make sure to remove all of the un-popped kernels.  You don’t want to bite down on one of those! 
Step 3: Once you have made the popcorn, salt it liberally.  It is so nice to taste the salty popcorn with the sweet marshmallow coating.  Not quite like Kettle Corn but close.

Preparing the White Chocolate

Step 4: Place the White Chocolate Melting Wafers in a glass bowl for melting.
Step 5: Melt the chocolate in the microwave. Start at 30 seconds.  Give the chocolate a stir.  Melt in 10-second increments until the white chocolate is fully melted.  

Making the White Chocolate Popcorn

Step 6:  Slowly pour melted white chocolate over the salted popcorn and stir until combined.
Step 7: Continue to fold the chocolate mixture in with the popcorn until all the popcorn is covered.
Step 8: Add in 2-3 tablespoons of Rainbow Nonpareils.  We found these at the grocery store and they are exactly the same kind of sprinkles that are on the Circus Animal Cookies.  So pretty!
Step 9: Stir until the sprinkles are mixed with the chocolate-covered popcorn.

Step 12: Now pour the popcorn onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper, foil, or a Silpat liner.
Step 13:  Now break apart some Circus Animal Cookies into bite-sized pieces to add to the popcorn.  Allow the Circus Animal Popcorn to cool. Break apart into pieces and serve.

What kind of popcorn should I use?

We make our popcorn from scratch on the stove – nothing is better than that in our opinion. You can find all the tips and tricks you need to make the perfect popcorn right here. You can also use Microwave popcorn but you should use a type that has no butter flavoring added.

How much salt should I put on the popcorn?

The contrast of sweet and salty in this popcorn recipe is super yummy. To get that combination you should lean towards over-salting the popcorn. We try to salt the popcorn as soon as it comes out of the pan so that salt sticks to the hot popcorn.
