Frozen Birthday Party Invitations

I’m a freak about invitations for a party. I feel they set the tone for the entire event. I know that is putting a lot of pressure on party invitations, but if you don’t have a clear idea of what your party is going to be how can you send out the perfect invitation? I loved the Mickey Mouse invitations that we did for Allison’s 3rd birthday, so I wanted to make sure the Disney Frozen Invitations were on the same creative level. After searching Pinterest and Google for ideas, I was afraid that wasn’t going to happen. I also really wanted to use my Cricut, but they don’t have any Frozen graphics. After an exhaustive search, I found a Castle card that I thought would be a good platform for our card. I added some sparkly white paper and a picture of Anna and Elsa and I think I achieved my goal – these Disney Frozen Birthday Party Invitations did set the tone for our Frozen Party … BEAUTIFUL!
How to Make Frozen Birthday Party Invitations
You will need:
- Cricut Cutting Machine
- Life’s a Party Cricut Cartridge
- Blue Cardstock
- White Glitter Card stock
- Blue Glitter Card stock
- Vellum paper
- Snowflake Stickers
- Snowflake Punch
- Inkjet Printer
- Glue Dots
- Tacky Glue
- Decorative Edging Scissors
- Regular Scissors

The final supply you will need are the Disney Frozen character images for the Disney Frozen Invitation. We used a picture of Elsa and Anna on the front and a picture of Olaf on inside of the invitation. We were going to print the images on the Inkjet printer but then decided that would be a very expensive option (don’t get us started on the insane price of inkjet ink!!!) so we decided to use Costco’s Online photo service where 4×6 photo copies were only 13 cents each. Laurie used Photoshop to save the images as hi-rez versions with a printable size of 4″ by 6″ (which is 1800 pixels by 1200 pixels at 300 dpi).
We carefully cut out the images from the Costco prints with scissors.

The base of the invitation is the Castle Card from the Life’s a Party Cricut Cartridge. We used the various shades of blue cardstock that we already had on hand to save some money. (We were pretty sure our guests would not be comparing their invitations and notice that not everybody’s was the same shade of blue – although I guess the cat is out of the bag now!) For the front, we added a another castle layer in white sparkly paper – so, so pretty. Finally we used Tacky Glue to attach Elsa and Anna to the front and Olaf to the inside of the card.

We printed the party information on vellum paper on the inkjet printer and cut it out with edging scissors.

We attached the party information vellum piece to the inside of the castle card with glue dots. Then we covered the spot where you could see the glue dots through the vellum with some Snowflake stickers (Thank you, Hobby Lobby, for putting out your Christmas stuff in July!)

Here is the full view of the inside of our invitations – cute isn’t it?

As a last minute final step we glued on some snowflakes that we cut out of blue sparkly card stock with a snowflake punch we bought to make table confetti for the party. It really was the perfect touch to these beautiful Frozen Birthday Party Invitations.

How did you glue the glitter overlay on the castle?
We used tacky glue to glue the glittler cardstock onto the castle.
Hi what is the height and length size of the castle?
Hi Sabrina – Folded, the castle was 5″ wide and 8 1/2″ tall.
Absolutely beautiful. What size would you cut on cricut explore?
Love these! I read how you did the images but am still having trouble saving it in such high quality…is there a trick?
I did a Google Image search for Elsa and Anna. Then I used the Search Tools feature they have to filter the results by “Large” images – then you are looking at the higher rez image options. Hope that helps!
These cards are so cute. I will be trying to make them for my daughter’s next birthday party. What font did you use for the party information?
Hi can you use the vellum paper in a regular printer
Hi Erika. We printed on the vellum paper in our HP Inkjet All-in-One printer and didn’t have any problems.
Hi, I tried cutting at 6 1/2″ but they are too small, compared to your picture. Still new to cricut machine, do I use real dial size, which I’m not familiar with either. Hoping you could help. Thanks
Hi Yolanda. Nancy is so happy you are making these invitations. We love them! She said that you need to turn the real dial off. I don’t know exactly which machine you are using but the height should be set to 6 1/2″. Hope that helps. Good luck!
Sorry, I have an expression and cut at 6 1/2″ with real size off but when it’s folded it’s so small that your open image with the vellum sheet could never fit inside my cut image, your image is taller/longer even in the image with the paper plate it looks much bigger?
oh my god! you’re AWESOME !! thank you for inspiring. may i know from where you got the castle template? let me know asap, thank you.
i’m ella from Indonesia
Thank you so much Ella! The castle template is on the Life’s a Party Cricut Cartridge. Hope that helps!
I don’t have a Cricut. Is it possible to post a pattern so People who don’t have an awsome machine like that can make this great card as well??
Thats a great idea. We will see if we can come up with something and add it to the post. Thanks for the idea.
Hi, did you ever come up with a pattern that could be hand cut? I don’t have a cricut either and my daughter loves these invitations. If you still have the images, is there anyway you could forward them to me II don’t think I have photoshop and IDK how to convert to high resolution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much and happy holidays!
Invitations are absolutely beautiful. What size did you cut the castle? How do you save a picture so that you can print at Costco? Thanks, Esther
Hi Esther! We set the Cricut at 6 1/2″ for the castle. And we just saved the picture as a JPG image and then uploaded it to the Costco Online Photo Center to order the prints.
Hi Mary – Thank you so much! We were so happy with how these invitations turned out. We think they are beautiful too. Nancy has a Cricut that is a couple of years old so I think the Life’s A Party cartridge is probably compatible. The castle is a card already. It comes out of the Cricut scored for folding and ready to go.
Thank you so much for your prompt reply.. I’ve never really give a great use to my Cricut, so I’ve never done any cards with it.. 🙁 .. I’ll stop at Hobby Lobby this weekend and look for the scoring tip.. again thank you so much.. you girls are incredibly talented
Btw.. the invitations are absolutely gorgeous
How do u make the castle to look like a card.. also I have the original Cricut (the one from stone age.. lol) is the cartridge life’s a party compatible with this cricut??
