Turn a pan of Brownies into these adorable Conversation Hearts Brownies for a perfect Valentine’s Day family night dessert.

These Conversation Heart Brownies were a last minute idea for a Valentine’s Day party my daughter got invited to.  I wanted something that was (relatively) easy, fun and screamed Valentine’s Day.  These Valentine’s themed Brownies fit the bill.  I will say, when I do them again, I will probably use a chocolate sheet cake.  The brownies were delicious but because of the nature of brownies (burnt edges) it really cut down on how many I could cut out.

Brownies and a Heart Cookie Cutter

Start with a pan of Brownies.  We used our favorite Ghirardelli Brownie Mix.  You’ll also need a Heart shaped cookie cutter.  We found ours at Amazon.

Best Buttercream Frosting

Now make up a batch of our Best Buttercream Frosting.  It is easy to make and so delicious.  You will find the recipe and detailed instructions on how to make it here.

Split the single batch of frosting into five equal portions.  We colored our frosting green, yellow, purple and pink to frost the brownie hearts.  The fifth portion we colored red to pipe on the Conversation Heart “sayings”.  We used the following combinations of Wilton Color Right Food Coloring to get these pretty traditional conversation heart colors:

  • Pink:  1 drop of Pink
  • Green:  1 drop of Yellow and 1 very small drop of Blue
  • Yellow: 1 very small drop of Yellow
  • Purple:  1 small drop each of Pink, Red and Blue
  • Red:  3 drops of Red

Cut out a heart from the Brownie

Use your heart cookie cutter to cut out as many heart shaped brownies as you can from your pan of brownies.

Spread on a generous layer of Buttercream Frosting

Use a knife to spread on some of your tinted buttercream frosting onto the Conversation Heart Brownies.
