I saw these cute pastel multi-colored marble “Dr. Suess Cookies” on Pinterest and thought that this technique would also work to create Red White and Blue Marble Cookies for 4th of July. I used a classic butter cookie recipe (see below) but you could also use any traditional sugar cookie recipe. The trick to getting the marbling look is to roll together mini balls of colored dough into a single ball of cookie dough. I love the bright colors and think these cookies are going to look great on the 4th of July food table but next time I need to work on getting the colors more evenly distributed in each cookie.
How to Make Red White and Blue Marble Cookies
You will need:
- 2 cups Butter
- 2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 2 tsp. Vanilla
- 4 cups Flour
- Americolor Super Red Food Coloring
- Americolor Royal Blue Food Coloring
- 4th of July Sprinkles
- Cookie Sheets
I used a basic butter cookie recipe (2 cups butter, 2 cups powdered sugar, 2 tsp. vanilla and 4 cups flour). Cream the butter and sugar together. Add vanilla. Add Flour one cup at a time. I separated the dough into three bowls and then added red and blue food coloring to two of the bowls of cookie dough. Then I chilled the dough overnight.
The technique for creating the red white and blue marbling is shown above. I created six small balls of cookie dough – 2 of each color. Then I placed them together in sets of three – red white and blue on the bottom and white blue and red on the top. Finally, I rolled the single ball of cookie dough in my hands until all six mini-balls were firmly connected. It ended up looking like a 4th of July beach ball.
Now I carefully used my fingers to transform the ball of dough into this rope like piece of cookie dough.
I used the rope-like piece of cookie dough to create a pinwheel like cookie.
I rolled the cookies in patriotic sprinkles.
Finally I baked the Red White and Blue Marble Cookies in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. The cookies are all red white and blue but no two turned out the same which I love.
