Our Oreo Cookie Popcorn is so yummy and so easy to make.  Sweet and salty popcorn covered in marshmallows and mixed with yummy Oreo Cookies. Delish!

Oreo Cookies are THE most popular store-bought cookie in America. That is pretty impressive for a cookie that first came on the market over a hundred years ago in 1912.  But maybe not surprising since Oreo Cookies are a very yummy guilty pleasure!  They were a natural mix-in for our Sweet and Salty Popcorn series and so we’d like to introduce our newest popcorn recipe — Oreo Popcorn — and boy is it delicious.

Ingredients You Will Need

All the ingredients you will need to make Oreo Popcorn including popcorn, mini marshmallows, butter and Oreo Cookies.

Preparing the Popcorn

Step 1: You will need 10 cups of popcorn. We pop our popcorn on the stove (you can find our directions on How to Make Perfect Popcorn here) but you can use air-popped or microwave. 
Step 2: After the popcorn is popped, make sure to remove all of the un-popped kernels.  You don’t want to bite down on one of those! 
Step 3: Once you have made the popcorn, salt it liberally.  It is so nice to taste the salty popcorn with the sweet marshmallow coating.  Not quite like Kettle Corn but close.

Step 4: For our Oreo Cookie Popcorn we bought a bag of Oreo Cookies.  Break apart some of the Oreos – we used about a cup of Oreo pieces in our popcorn.  We used a sharp knife and gave the cookies a rough chop. We didn’t want a lot of cookie dust mixed in our popcorn so that is why we didn’t use a rolling pin or a food processor. We also separated the cookie pieces from the crumbs and the dust and didn’t add those into the popcorn.  The dust will turn your popcorn grey and unappetizing when you mix it into the popcorn.

Preparing the Marshmallow Mixture

Step 5: To make the Marshmallow Mixture, add 3 tablespoons of butter to a medium saucepan.  Melt the butter on medium heat, stirring occasionally until the butter is completely melted.
Step 6: Add 3 cups of mini marshmallows to the saucepan.
Step 7: Stir until the marshmallows are covered in butter, and then continue to stir until the marshmallows are completely melted.
Step 8: Take the marshmallow mixture off the heat as soon as the last marshmallow has melted.

Making the Marshmallow Popcorn

Step 9: Add the popcorn to a large bowl.
Step 10:  Toss the Oreo pieces into the bowl along with the popcorn.
Step 11:  Slowly pour about a third of the marshmallow mixture over the salted popcorn.
Step 12: Gently fold the marshmallow mixture in with the popcorn.  Continue to add the marshmallow mixture a bit at a time, stirring between each addition. The popcorn should be completely covered in the warm marshmallow mixture.

Step 13: Now pour the popcorn onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper, foil, or a Silpat liner.
Step 14: Use the spatula to even the popcorn out on the cookie sheet.  Allow the Oreo Popcorn to cool. Break apart into pieces and serve.

Ingredients

  • 10 cups Popped Popcorn
  • 3 tablespoons Butter (Sweet Cream, Salted)
  • 3 cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 1 cup Oreo Cookies (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Chop Oreo cookies until you have 1 cup. Set aside.
  2. Pop 10 cups of popcorn and remove all of the un-popped kernels. Salt it liberally and set it aside in a large bowl.
  3. Add 3 tablespoons of butter to a medium saucepan.  Melt the butter on medium heat, stirring occasionally until the butter is completely melted.
  4. Add 3 cups of mini marshmallows to the melted butter.
  5. Stir until the marshmallows are covered in the butter, and then continue to stir until the marshmallows are completely melted.
  6. Take the marshmallow mixture off of the heat as soon as the last marshmallow has melted.
  7. Add the chopped Oreo Cookies to the bowl with the popcorn.
  8. Slowly pour about a third of the marshmallow mixture over the salted popcorn and oreos.
  9. Gently fold the marshmallow mixture in with the popcorn.  Continue to add the marshmallow mixture a bit at a time, stirring between each addition. The popcorn should be completely covered in the warm marshmallow mixture. 
  10. Now pour the popcorn onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper, foil, or a Silpat liner. Use the spatula to even the popcorn out on the cookie sheet.
  11. Allow the Oreo Popcorn to cool. Break apart into pieces and serve.
