Mini Pies for the Holidays
Mini Pies for the Holidays are a great alternative for your friends and family who can’t decide which kind of pie to have for their Thanksgiving or Christmas Dessert. And they are small enough that you can eat a couple of them!
Mini Pies for the Holidays are a genius idea that solves the problem of which flavor of pie you are going to have for dessert after that big ol’ Turkey dinner. Don’t make your guests agonize between choosing a small slice of pumpkin pie and a small slice of [fill in the blank] pie. These pies are so perfectly sized that everyone can have two or three different flavors without overdoing it. Everyone will love them and you don’t have to tell them how easy they were to make. It’s a Two Sisters party Win/Win situation.
Expert Tips and FAQ’s
12 mini pies are approximately the equivalent of one 9″ pie. We use this as a guide to decide how many to make depending on how many people will be at our dinner.
The more the merrier, we say. If we are hosting a big Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner we usually try to make at least 6 of each of the most popular flavors: Apple, Cherry, Pumpkin, Pecan, and Mince.
We use a Cupcake Stand to serve our Mini Pies. It is always a BIG hit! You can find one on Amazon or in the Baking Aisle of your local Craft Store.
Homemade Pie Crust has its place … this is not one of them. We always use the Pre-made pie crust that you find in the refrigerated aisle at the grocery store. It makes everything so much easier. They are pre-rolled to the perfect thickness for the small muffin tins. You should be able to get 5-6 circles out of every 9″ pie crust sheet.
Lightly brush the inside of the pie crust with an egg-white wash. This acts as a layer of protection between the filing and the pie crust and helps them not to have “soggy bottoms.”
Always serve homemade Whipped Cream. It takes minutes to make and it tastes so much better than store-bought. We have a great Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe right here for you to use!
Make the filling ahead of time but bake the pies the day you want to serve them.
Like most things, if stored in the refrigerator in an air-tight container the pies will last for about a week.

Were do you get thepie holder
It is a cupcake holder. We got this one at Target but you can find them all over.
Just saw this wonderful idea for the holidays! I am experimenting with my sweet potato filling!
I am making them too at this moment . Very exited 🙂
I just made these for our Thankagiving dinner tomorrow! They’re adorable! I’m wondering how you stored your pies overnight? I made the apple streusel, cherry and pecan. Fridge? Air-tight container?
Thanks,
Amber
Hi Amber, I am so glad they turned out so well. I would do both…air tight container and refrigerator.
Do you have the pecan pie recipe?
Hi Cindy – We stored them in the refrigerator in an big plastic container. Then we brought them out on Thanksgiving morning, put them on the cupcake stand and let them come back up to room temperature. They tasted great.
Looking forward to making these but I see you don’t actually have different recipes here… for instance, are all filings made with two boxes of dough or is that just enough for the apple? Guess I’ll be experimenting tomorrow!
Hi,
I was wondering if I could use apple pie filling.
Of course, you will just need to cut up up the apples a little. They will be too big for the mini pie.
How many pecan pies does the recipe you posted make?
Love this! I was wondering if the crusts got soggy? I would like to make them for Thanksgiving, but I am worried about how they will hold up if made the day before. Thank you
Hi Kelly, thanks so much. The mini pies are great. Your family will love them. We made them the day before, and they were fine. We didn’t have any that were soggy. I hope they turn out well for you and that you and your family have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Hi. I was wondering where can I buy premade pie dough? Does grocery stores like QFC or Safeway have those?
-Thanks
Yes – you can find it in the Dairy section where they display the pre-made cookie dough and biscuits.
Did you bake these in normal cupcake pan or a mini cupcake pan? Thank you! Looks amazing!
Hi Meghan, we used a normal cupcake pin. We thought about using a mini cupcake pan, but we worried there would be too much crust and not enough filling.
where did you purchase the cupcake stand I can’t find any like it. Thank you for the recipes
Hi, I was wondering if you could give us the pumpkin recipe as well. I see in the picture, you have mini pumpkin pies too. Thanks so much.
Hi, These look AWESOME!!! Is there a pumpkin recipe for the mini pies? Would love to try making them for Thanksgiving. Thanks!!
Also, I forgot to ask, What temperature do you use for the Pecan Pies. Thanks!
We baked them in 400F oven.
Hi Chris, as it turns out my mom’s “famous pumpkin pie” recipe turns out to be from the Better Homes and Garden “New Cook Book.” Here it is:
1 15 oz can of Pure Pumpkin (Not pumpkin pie filing)
2/3 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
3 eggs
1 can evaporated milk
Add eggs and beat slightly. Add pumpkin, sugar, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice and combine. Slow mix in milk. I always taste my mixture to see if it needs more spice. I usually end up adding more cinnamon. Bake in a 375F oven for 20-25 mins.
Do you think I could make these ahead of time and freeze them?
Hi Tina, although we have never frozen the mini pies before, I think they would freeze fine.
Thanks for this attractive idea. Where did you purchase that pie rack to display the pies?
Hi. It is a cupcake stand! It worked perfectly.
Do you have the recipe for the mini pecan pies?
Hi Lorena – we just added the recipe for the Mini Pecan Pies to the bottom of the post! Happy Thanksgiving!
Do you have the recipe for the mini pecan pies? I don’t see it.
Thanks Laurie! Have a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the recipes…I am wondering if you greased the muffin tin before putting the crust in? Also, how many mini pies does the apple pie recipe yield? thanks so much…I’m going to try these for my family Thanksgiving.
Hi Jennifer! We didn’t grease the pans. We used non-stick muffin tins and the pies came right out once they had cooled a bit. And we only made 12 apple pies because we were making other kinds of pie too so we did have some apple mixture left over. I don’t remember exactly but I think we could have made 4-6 more depending on how much filling you use. Hope that helps and I hope your family loves the mini pies on Thanksgiving!
