It was Laurie’s idea to have the Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake.  I fought it pretty hard because I wasn’t sure I would be able to pull it off.  As much as I hate to admit it, she was right.  The Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake turned out very cute, and really brought the whole display together.

How to Make a Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake

You will need:

Mickey Mouse Cake - Detail of Bottom Half

For Mickey Mouse’s red pants, we used batch of our buttercream frosting colored red with Americolor Super Red Food Coloring on the bottom of the cupcake cake.  I frosted it using vertical stripes with a 1M frosting tip.

Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake - Detail of Top

For the top of the Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake, I used the same 1M frosting tip with white buttercream frosting but this time I made squiggly lines instead of straight lines.

Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake - Assembly

We carefully placed the top of the cupcake cake onto the bottom half.

Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake - White Candy Melts for Buttons

We added Wilton Bright White Candy Melts for buttons.

And finally, we molded two ears out of Black Modelling Chocolate. I cut two slits into the top of the cake for the ears and then carefully nestled the Mickey Mouse ears into the Buttercream frosting on the top of the Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake.
