Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake
It was Laurie’s idea to have the Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake. I fought it pretty hard because I wasn’t sure I would be able to pull it off. As much as I hate to admit it, she was right. The Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake turned out very cute, and really brought the whole display together.
How to Make a Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake
You will need:
- Wilton Giant Cupcake Pan
- Yellow Cake Mix
- Best Buttercream Frosting
- Americolor Super Red Food Coloring
- Wilton 1M Decorating Frosting Tip
- Wilton Decorating Bags
- Wilton Bright White Candy Melts
- Black Modelling Chocolate
For Mickey Mouse’s red pants, we used batch of our buttercream frosting colored red with Americolor Super Red Food Coloring on the bottom of the cupcake cake.  I frosted it using vertical stripes with a 1M frosting tip.
For the top of the Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake, I used the same 1M frosting tip with white buttercream frosting but this time I made squiggly lines instead of straight lines.
We carefully placed the top of the cupcake cake onto the bottom half.
We added Wilton Bright White Candy Melts for buttons.
And finally, we molded two ears out of Black Modelling Chocolate. I cut two slits into the top of the cake for the ears and then carefully nestled the Mickey Mouse ears into the Buttercream frosting on the top of the Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake.
Hi,
Can you share the brand or package of Black Modelling Chocolate and how to make the ears?
Hi! I don’t remember the name. We found it at Michaels in the baking supply aisle in the section with the fondant. Hope that helps!
Modelling chocolate can I buy in store? It isn’t fondant is it? Sorry if silly question
Hi – We got ours at Michaels in the cake decorating section. It is different than fondant but you might be able to use fondant if you can’t find the modeling chocolate, you’d just have to let the fondant dry/harden so the ears don’t flop down.
Can you tell me how you made the top part of the cake?!:)
Where did you get those mickey and minnie figures?
Hi Jocie – I bought those at Disneyland a couple of years ago. Aren’t they adorable?
