Meeska Mouska Mickey Mouse! We threw a Mickey Mouse Birthday party and compiled all of our best Mickey Mouse Party Ideas including decorations, desserts, and party favors for you to enjoy (and maybe be inspired by!)

Laurie and I live for projects.  If we don’t have a project to work on, we get a little lost.  We usually start planning Allison’s birthday party, which is in July, in March.  We always say we are starting too early (and my husband thinks we are nuts), but invariably we are still doing last-minute projects the week of the party.  Starting early also gives us time to flesh out our ideas and see if they are feasible.  We have done many a dry run on items that, if we hadn’t, would never have worked.  For Allison’s 3rd Birthday we went with a Mickey Mouse Birthday Party theme.  We knew we wanted to do a backyard party with a bounce house and a waterslide, so we worked on adding the Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse touches with these Mickey Mouse Party Ideas including DIY projects, decorations, and desserts!

Mickey Mouse Cupcake Stand

The Mickey Mouse Table Cloth was the star of the show and so easy to do. We covered the dining room table with the two red table clothes, making sure that the table cloth went all the way down to the floor.  We draped the black table cloth over the top.  We cut out two white oval “buttons” from printer paper and taped them onto the red table cloth.  It’s that easy but makes a great statement! For the actual Mickey Mouse Cupcake Stand, we covered four Amazon shipping boxes with wrapping paper and arranged them on the table in a pyramid of sorts.  The small box on the top was for the Mickey Mouse Cupcake Cake.  Finally, we arranged the Mickey Mouse Cupcakes and Minnie Mouse Cupcakes on the display.

Mickey Mouse Party Desserts Ideas

We like a good variety of fun and delicious themed desserts at our birthday party extravaganzas. Our Mickey Mouse Party with no exception … we had cake, cupcakes, rice krispie treats and pretzel bites. There was something for everyone! You’ll find the recipes and detailed instructions here:

Balloon Columns for a Mickey Mouse Party

A party isn’t a party without balloons but in a time of massive worldwide Helium shortages, you have to be a little more creative in how to use balloons. Balloon columns are an easy and festive alternative to helium-filled balloons.  Our Balloon Columns for a Mickey Mouse Party was our first attempt at this and we really loved how they turned out!  The balloon column is made up of a series of rows of balloon groupings. Each grouping is made up of four balloons.  The key to having the best-looking column possible is to try to get all of the balloons to be about the same size.  Next, tie together two balloons.  Then twist together two sets of double balloons into a quad balloon grouping.  The quad groupings are attached to something vertical.  Here we used the posts of a Coleman Instant Canopy. But you could also stick a piece of plumber’s conduit into the ground or stick. Hook the quad grouping onto your vertical element.  Nestle them together, rotating each subsequent grouping a bit so that the balloons nicely fit together as shown in the picture above.  You can’t move the quad balloon grouping around too much after you have placed another row on top of it. The friction between the balloons will cause the balloons to pop. A note about timing. It took us approximately 1 1/2 hours to blow up the balloons and create these four balloon columns.  Balloons that are blown up with air (versus helium) will last a couple of days but look best on day one so I waited until the morning of the party to blow them up.

Mickey Mouse Balloon Arch

Like the Balloon Columns, we made for the Mickey Mouse Party the balloon arch is made up of rows of four balloon groupings. Tie together two balloons and then twist together two sets of double balloons into a quad balloon grouping.  This is the building block for your balloon arch. To make the actual Mickey Mouse Balloon Arch, we started with four rows of red balloons on each end of the arch.  For the third row, the quad grouping was three red balloons and one white balloon.   Then we filled in the rest of the arch with rows of black balloons.

Mickey Mouse Party Favor Bags

We love having fun party favor bags to give away.  This year we really outdid ourselves with these Mickey Mouse Party Favor Bags. They turned out very cute. Because we had so many kids of varying ages, the favors were child-specific, so we made the red “pants” a pocket where we could slip in a Thank you card with the child’s name. The bags we created ended up being 8″x10″. The straps were 16″ from end to end. The red pocket was 5″ tall. We used 1″ white buttons. We filled the Mickey Mouse Party Favor Bags with a couple of party favors, added a Thank-You note from Allison in the front pocket, and handed them out to Allison’s friends as they left the party.

DIY Mickey Mouse Ears

The Minnie Mouse Ears and Mickey Mouse Ears were the first project we found and ended up inspiring us to go with a Mickey and Minnie party theme. We loved how they turned out and everyone at the party wanted and wore them. The DIY Mickey & Minnie Mouse Ears were right by the front door on the day of the Mickey Mouse Birthday Party and every party-goer (even the Mom’s and Dad’s) got a set as they arrived.   We’ve got ears! Say Cheers!

Mickey Mouse Cricut Party Invitations

We used the Cricut Machine to make these Mickey Mouse-themed cutouts in the party’s black, white and red color scheme. Each Mickey Mouse Invitation had an “A”, a “3”, a Mickey Mouse Head, a Minnie Mouse Head, a Mickey Mouse Hand and Mickey Mouse pants, three red squares, and 3 white squares.  We used a small paintbrush to glue the pieces of the invitation to the black 5×7″ paper. On the back, we glued on a piece of white paper with the party information.  We used a Minnie Mouse font that we found on the Internet.  We were so happy with how these Mickey Mouse Party Invitations turned out!

Mickey and Minnie Mouse Centerpieces

We love how these Mickey and Minnie Centerpieces turned out.  When we started thinking about party centerpieces our original idea was to have cut flowers on the table, but as we talked we decided it would be fun to paint terra cotta pots and put real plants in them.  What we ended up with was a good statement piece for the tables, but it didn’t overwhelm the table nor block out people if they wanted to talk. For the base of the Mickey and Minnie Centerpieces, we spray painted the Terra Cotta pots with black matte spray paint.  Then we hand-painted the polka dots with a dauber brush.  We dipped the top of the brush in paint, placed it firmly on the pot, and then twisted the brush in a circle, leaving a polka dot.   We painted the pots black and white so the centerpieces would match the Black & White polka dot balloons that we were using on the balloon columns were making to decorate the patio.  Now for the Mickey Mouse Ears, we spray painted the balsa sticks with the same black matte spray paint that we used on the Terra Cotta pots.  After they were dry, we stuck the medium Styrofoam ball on the stick for the Mickey Head and then added the small Styrofoam balls with toothpicks to represent the ears. Finally, we painted the Mickey Mouse head black.  This turned out to be trickier than we imagined. The Styrofoam balls really soaked up the paint and it was hard to get all the white nooks and crannies covered.  It took three or four coats to get them fully painted.  The Minnie & Mickey cut-outs were created with the Cricut Cutting Machine and the Disney Mickey and Friends Cricut cartridge.

Mickey Mouse Party Cups

Here are the cups we used at our Mickey Mouse Birthday Party.  Red and white plastic cups decorated with a Mickey Mouse head that we made out of Chalkboard vinyl paper.  Guests were able to use chalk to write their name on Mickey’s head so they wouldn’t lose track of their cup.  These Mickey Mouse Party Cups were a big hit with the party-goers.
