Make your own beautiful Mercury Glass Christmas Tree Ornaments – so easy to make and so gorgeous. We have all the directions you’ll need to make your own.

We are living in a Crafting Renaissance Period.  There are so many wonderful crafting supplies out there that you can use to create amazing things with so little effort.  For me, this fact has changed the way I think about Christmas Tree Ornaments.  I used to buy new Christmas tree ornaments every year but now I realize I can make my own handmade ornaments that mean so much more to me.  These Mercury Glass Christmas Tree Ornaments are great examples  … they are so much prettier than typical store-bought silver ornaments and they could not be easier to make!

You will need:

Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint

The key to creating Mercury Glass Christmas Tree Ornaments is this Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint. You can find it at any crafting store.  A can this size will make about 6-10 Mercury Glass Ornaments (depending on the size of the ornament.)  You will also need clear GLASS ornaments.  You won’t get the same effect on plastic ornaments.

The process is simple.  Fill a small spray bottle with White Vinegar and set it aside.  Spray the glass ornaments with a very light coating of the Krylon Looking Glass Paint.  Once you have covered the ornaments with the spray paint, spritz the vinegar on random areas on the ornament.  The vinegar will dissolve the spray paint and give you that vintage mercury glass look.  If you want to intensify the spotted look, use a paper towel dab at the ornament to remove even more of the spray paint.  There is no wrong way to do this and every ornament will look different.  Allow the ornament to dry overnight.
