Halloween M&M Cookies
Are you in charge of cookies for your kid’s school Halloween party? Have we got a yummy and easy-to-make option for you … our Halloween M&M Cookies. Chewy and chocolate-y and oh so festive with their Orange, Brown and White M&M’s on top. This one is a real crowd pleaser!
How to Make the Cookie Dough
Step 1: To make the chocolate cookie dough, mix together the dry ingredients (including the cocoa powder) and set them aside. Cream together the butter and white and brown sugars. Mix in the eggs and vanilla. Finally, add in the dry ingredients 1 cup at a time.
Baking Instructions
Step 2: Gather up the M&M’s you will use to decorate the Halloween cookies. Here are the M&M’s we used on our Halloween M&M Cookies. The Orange and Dark Brown M&M’s we pulled out of a regular bag of M&M’s. For the White M&M’s, you can find this color at any candy store, Party City, or the My M&M’s Website.
Step 3: To keep the cookies similar in size I measured out 2 oz. of dough for each cookie on my food scale. I rolled the dough into a ball and pressed the ball down slightly on the cookie sheet. Randomly press the M&M’s onto the cookie dough ball. This will allow the colorful M&M’s to show up on the top of the baked Halloween M&M Cookies.
Step 4: Bake the cookies in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for 9-11 minutes. So pretty. And yummy too. And don’t worry about any broken M&M’s. That is what happens when the candy starts to cool when you take them out of the oven. The cookies still taste great!

Can u make the dough ahead of time like the day before store in fridge
Sure. That will work. I’d let the dough come back up to room temperature before you baked the cookies though.
Made this recipe on Halloween and these cookies were a huge hit! Next time I plan on adding chocolate chips to the batter as well to make even more Brownie like.
Hi Megan, adding chocolate chips is a really good idea.
These were perfect for our Halloween party, perfect flavor, perfect texture and looked great. Thank you for sharing!
I tried making these cookies last night. they looked so cute and smelled great coming out of the oven. When I tried the batter i thought they tasked a little bitter but thought maybe it’s just the dough… It wasn’t. The cookies were very bitter and dry. I had to throw the whole batch out. I love baking cookies and adding new recipes but I was very disappointed with these. Any suggestions?
Hi Julie – Something definitely went wrong. We think this chocolate cookie batter tastes amazing and the cookies are usually moist and brownie like. How old was the Hershey’s Cocoa Powder? Did you use regular Cocoa Powder or Dark Cocoa Powder?
