Spring Flower Pretzel Bites
These Spring Flower Pretzel Bites are sweet, salty, crunchy, and delicious – an easy and fun treat for Easter, Spring and Mother’s Day made with only three ingredients!
When we started Two Sisters, we had never heard of pretzel bites. We are happy to say that we now not only know what a pretzel bite is, but we have created one for every kind of occasion. The contrast between the crunchy and salty pretzel, the sweet white chocolate candy melt, and the crunchy chocolatey goodness of the M&M’s is simply perfection! These Spring Flower Pretzel Bites turned out so beautifully and are the perfect sweet and salty bite. If you are looking for a delicious sweet snack for Easter, Mother’s Day, Baby Showers, Birthdays, or just a random Sunday you’ve come to the right place. Enjoy!
Ingredients You Will Need
- Pretzels: For the pretzels, we like to use the square “snaps” because we think they hold the melted chocolate with less dripping but you could make Mini Pretzels work too if that is all you can find at the grocery store.
- White Chocolate: We used to recommend that you use Wilton Candy Melts but in the last few years Wilton decreased the size of the candy melts and now they are too small to hold all the M&M petals now. So we have switched to the Ghirardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers, which you can find in the grocery store in the baking aisle. The Ghirardelli wafers are on the small size too but if you are careful, they will work.
- Easter Mix M&M’s: This is a special mix of M&M’s that is available in stores in the Spring and features pretty pastel versions of the M&M colors. You’ll find them with the Easter Candy in your grocery store in March and April.
How to Make the Flower Pretzel Bites
Step 1: Here is a Two Sisters tip … take the time to separate the colors of the M&M’s. It saves so much time when you are adding the M&M’s to the melted white chocolate.
Step 2: Arrange 8 or 9 pretzels on a microwave safe plate. Timing is crucial in this process and you don’t want to melt the chocolate on too many pretzels at one time or by the time you get to the 15th pretzel, the chocolate will have hardened back up and you won’t be able to press in the M&M’s. We have found that 8-9 is a good number.
Step 3: Place a candy melt in the center of the pretzel. Then place the plate of pretzels in the microwave and heat them until the candy melts are at the beginning stage of being melted – they should be soft to the touch and melted enough to press a M&M down into it but not so melty that the candy is running off the pretzel. In our microwave, it took a plate of 9 pretzels 40 seconds to get to this point. [Tip: You can also use your oven for the candy melting process — place the pretzels and candy melts on a cookie sheet covered with aluminum foil and heat in a very low oven (200-250 degrees) for a couple of minutes until the candy is melted.]
Steps 4-11: Using Easter-colored M&M’s, place a single M&M in the center of the melted candy melt for the flower center. Now create the flower petals with contrasting colored M&M’s – we used six M&M’s for the petals. We like to place the “M” side down!
Step 12: We let the Spring Flower Pretzel Bites set out for a couple of hours so that the Candy Melts could fully set before we stored them in an air-tight container. They will last for a very long time in an air-tight container.
Step 13: Here are all of the color schemes we used for our Spring Flower Pretzel Bites. So very pretty!

These are so lovely! I’m in my community theater’s production of The Secret Garden and wanted to make some cute flower-themed treat for my cast mates for opening night; these will be perfect!
can use these in cupcakes? make the a head of time and put them on the cupcakes before serving ?
Absolutely, you just need to make sure not to put the M&Ms on ahead of time. They will get cloudy in the refrigerator and also might bleed onto your frosting if you do.
These are adorable! However I seem to be having trouble fitting all the m&m’s on the pretzel. Your pretzels must have been bigger!
Thanks, Laurie. It is a tight fit. If you are having trouble you could always use a tiny twist pretzel.
I am having the same problem. I was so excited about making these for church tomorrow. There’s no way to make a flower with the M&M’s.Â
Hi Judy – Here is a quick picture of how to do it. In this picture I am using Pretzel Snaps and Ghirardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers.
You could try using Mini M&M’s. I haven’t tried it, but I assume it would work!
Great idea! I am planning on making these as party favours for my daughter’s baptism, which has a flower theme. Since I have to make quite a bit I wanted to make them a few days in advance. I read in previous comments that this is doable as long as they are stored in an air tight container with layers of parchment in between. Since I plan on bagging them as favours do you think it will be fine to bag them once completely cooled and then store them in an air tight container?
Hi Michelle – sure, that will work!
I love these, I made them for Easter and it was such a hit!! I’m not doing just purple and pink ones for my daughters christening party. Since I’m doing several do you think I could make them 5 days in advance and store them in Tupperware?
Hi Meaghan – We are so glad you liked the Flower Pretzel Bite recipe. Yes! You definitely can make these ahead and store them in an air-tight containers. We’ve stored them that way for up to a couple of weeks and they tasted just as good Week Two as Day one!
Turned out perfect! Looked just like the pictures and were a huge hit at our Easter get together. Very cute 🙂 Thank you for sharing the idea!
*I took Michelle’s advice and melted the wafers in the oven at 250 degrees for 3 min, 20 at a time*
That’s great. So glad you enjoyed the pretzel bites! They are always a crowd favorite at a party.
Did anyone have trouble with the m&m’s cracking? I tried melting in both the microwave & my toaster oven at 200 degrees. Melted fine, but some (not all) of the chocolate cracked when I placed them on the warm chocolate.
Hi Michelle – The candy is too hot. Next time you might try heating the candy melts a tiny bit less or wait a minute after you take them out of the oven before adding the M&M’s.
Has anyone used white almond bark instead of the Wilton candies?
Hi Luann – we use a Wilton 2D Decorating Tip to get that pretty Swirl.
Has anyone tried making these, but just using a buttercream frosting piped on the pretzels?
Has anyone tried making these, but just using a buttercream frosting piped on the pretzels?
Having trouble finding the little square pretzel snaps.
Hi – we use Hanover Pretzel Snaps. We buy them at Albertson’s and Target. And it looks like they have them at Walmart too. But you can use the Mini round ones if you can’t find the Snaps!
You should work on a print button or make your webpage printer friendly. If you hit the print button, it’s 23 pages because it includes comments. Great recipe!!!!!
That’s a great idea! We will work on that.
b, you can always highlight just the recipe, then in the Print box, click on Selection and it will only print what you’ve highlighted
Have you ever done this with rolos or small pieces caramel instead of the white chocolate? Have a baby shower coming up and the mom to be loves caramel.
Hi Krya – yes, we have used both. The Rollos are especially tasty but I’m not sure they would depress enough to add all of the M&M’s you’ll need to make the flower.
I did the rolos as a mini pecan turtle. Toasted pecan half on top instead of mms
Never heard of candy melts what r they getting grandson and would love to make with him
Hi Karen – these are Wilson Candy Melts: http://www.wilton.com/wilton-candy-melts/pg_candymelts.html. You can find them at Michaels and Wal-Mart. You can also use Ghirardelli Melting Wafers which come in White and Dark Chocolate and you can find those at most grocery stores in the baking aisle.
I wonder if you could use the inside filling of a white Oreo instead of the candy melt? If it’s large enough I think it would be much easier to use and would taste great! I used them to as part of a cake decoration in which I had to make eyes and I softened them in the microwave for just seconds and they held the candy I put on top of them perfectly! Just a thought 🙂
Hi – that does sound good. The trick would be to get the Oreo filling to stick to the pretzel. Let us know how it works if you try it!
I took this to mean she would use the Oreo instead of the pretzel.
Oh … could be. That’s an interesting idea … an Oreo Bite!
The picture where you only have 3 of the petals on reminds me of bunny feet!!!!
I never noticed that before. Maybe that will be a project for us for next year. Thanks for the idea.
I have a question. How far ahead can I make these? I do not want then to go stale. I have a ladies gathering in 10 days. My time is very limited so I would like to make them now. I made a few to see how long they take and I am a little slow so need to do today!
Thanks
You can make them a couple of days a head and store them in an airtight container. They will be fine. But I would suggest not putting them in the refrigerator or freezer. They taste fine when they have been stored in the cold, but the M&M’s candy shell cloud up when they are removed from the cold and the Flower Pretzel Bite will not look as pretty.
GREAT IDEA FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTER’S NEXT B’DAY PARTY!
Thank you for a perfectly lovely shower idea! My niece’s them is “Daisy Days”, and these little pretzel bits are going to be the hit of the shower!!
I loved the idea so I tried it. Not as easy as it looks. The pretzel snaps weren’t big enough and they were there the big ones too. But I still did it and they look great but took a while to do. Thanks
What an awesome idea. Thanks!
I found it easiest to put on 5 (instead of 6) petals around the outside, then put the center in. Also I had play around a lot with the time and temp of the microwave. My pretzels burned at 50 sec on high. 50 seconds on 8-9 power worked better. However my micro got very hot and I had to let it cool down in between somewhat. It’s a brand new LG micro. Also I used the cheap, plain white paper plates and those became very hot as well. I had to throw it out after each batch. The look cute and taste great but not sure I would do them again. A little too fussy perhaps. But I had fun and glad I tried them! Taking them to Easter dinner at my in-laws.
You could probably melt the candy melts in the microwave in a glass measuring cup and pour into a squeeze bottle for assembly, being careful to use very little of the melted candy on middle of the pretzel. Little drop of candy on back of each m&m would be enough to adhere candy to the pretzel.
These are beautiful, perfect for Easter. Has anyone had problems with their M & M’s cracking? Besides, that, these were quick and easy — and of course, delicious.
Hi Katy. We are so glad you like them! I think the candy melts were too hot. Maybe next time try heating the candy melts for a shorter time or letting them cool a tiny bit before you add the M&M’s.
Love the spring theme! I’ve been doing my pretzel bites in my toaster oven. I can see the melting process easier than in my microwave, and my oven door doesn’t have a window. Works great!
These are really nice thanks !!
I just made 9 of these to try it out. Turned out perfectly, and are delicious!!! Thank you for such a great idea.
Yay!!!! We are so glad to hear that!!
I just made these for our Easter celebration! They were easy and looked great. My taste-testers (teenage daughters) said they tasted amazing, too!
I used the oven to melt the wafers – 3 mins. at 250 degrees was perfect. Also, in batches of 20 at a time on a parchment lined cookie sheet worked well. Any more than that per batch and they started to harden before I could get them all done.
NOTE: My daughters got a real kick out of the ones I made for a snack for them today using just one yellow M&M in the middle… They looked exactly like sunny-side up eggs on toast! 🙂
Thanks so much for this recipe/idea! I know my nieces especially are going to love them!
Yay!!! We’re so glad you liked them!
Forgot another note – I didn’t have room in my freezer to set them, so I put the finished ones on a cooling rack in my kitchen by the window (it’s still cool here, and no humidity). I let them sit for 20-30 minutes, and they were cooled and set enough to stack in an airtight plastic container with parchment between the layers.
Great idea!
Thanks for the oven temp/time suggestion… worked perfect for me!
I plan on making these for Easter so I thought I would test one and I found that the white chocolate melted on the bottom and the top was still too hard to press the m&m’s in. Would the oven work better?
Thanks!
Hi Gina, the oven will work too. It needs to be low and it takes a little longer. How many pretzels/candy did you have on the paper plate in the microwave? How many seconds did you heat them? Sometimes, just a second or two more is all you need.
I only had one and I tried 50 seconds and then added 10 more seconds but it was melting quite a bit on the bottom. Maybe I should have tried 9 like you did and that may make a difference.
I think the number of pretzels you do at one time is key to the process. You don’t want to do too many because then the candy melt will start hardening up before you get all the M&M’s added. And if you do too few, the microwave might not be the best way to melt the chocolate.
Love these!
Thanks!
I’m making these and I’m having a problem with the pretzels burning before candy melts are soft enough. Any suggestions??
Hi! That’s strange. We’ve never had that problem. You could try to melt the candy in the oven instead – try a low temperature (200-250 degrees) for a few minutes.
My husband and I made these tonight and had the same problem with burned pretzels. We ended up lowering the power on the microwave to 50% and cooking a plate of ten for a minute and a half. I used dark chocolate melts instead of the white though. I’m not sure if that would make a difference.
Hi Stacy. We’ve never had that happen, but that’s a good idea about heating them on 50% power. You can also melt the chocolate in a low oven (200 degrees is ideal.) When you say burnt – did the pretzels turn a different color and taste differently or could you just smell the heated up pretzel?
Do you know about how many individual “flowers” you got out of a single batch?
Hi! We originally bought two bags of the M&M’s to make the Flower Pretzel Bites. We made about 3 dozen and we had a lot of M&M’s left over. It really depends on the color combinations you want to use – there aren’t the same number of M&M’s in all colors in one bag (meaning there are more pinks than yellows.) Hope this helps.
I’m doing a baby shower and these are perfect.
That is so amazing. I think I will try it soon thanks
Wow these look great and easy to make.
I will use this to make as favors on my Easter table and after dinner cookies and coffee—–YUM!
