Disney Frozen Elsa Party Favor Bags
Of all the projects we did for Allison’s Frozen birthday party, these Elsa Party Favor Bags were our favorites. Maybe it was because they are so girlie, or because they are sparkly, or maybe it was because they were just so darn cute. They were a perfect counterpart to the Olaf Party Favor Bags we did for the boys. We were worried that the girls might want the Olaf Party Favor Bags instead (because they were super cute too), but our worries were for naught. The girls LOVED their personalized sparkly Elsa Party Favor Bags.
How to Make Frozen Elsa Party Favor Bags
You will need:
- Blue Felt
- 1/4″ White Satin Ribbon
- 1/2″ White Grosgrain Ribbon
- White Glitter Tulle
- Blue Glitter Tulle
- Sewing Machine
- White Thread
- Scissors
The first thing I did was cut the pieces of blue felt for the bag.  I made a pattern that was an 8″ x 10″ rectangle.  You will need two of these pieces for each bag.
Next, I used the blue felt to cut out the handles for the Elsa Party Favor Bag.  I made the cuts on the fold, the width of the handle is 1 1/2″.  Each bag will need two handles.
Elsa Party Favor bag pieces ready for sewing.
Here I am getting ready to sew the handles onto the blue pieces of felt.  (That is my cat Noodle in the background.  He is obsessed with the sewing machine!)  I attached each handle with a single zig-zag stitch seam across the top of the piece of felt.  If you don’t have a sewing machine, you could use fabric glue to attach the handles to the tops of the bag pieces. Or you could use a needle and thread to hand stitch them to the blue felt.
To create the bags,  I placed the rights sides of the blue felt together and sewed around three sides (right side, bottom and left side.)  When I was done I turned the bag inside out and that is all there is to creating the bags.  This is a super simple sewing project.  Again, if you don’t have a sewing machine you could use glue to create the side and bottom seams.
After we were done with the bags we decided to personalize them just like we did with the Olaf Party Favor Bags. Â Iron-on letters are strangely expensive. Â We looked around at a couple of craft stores and were shocked at how much they cost. Â Then we tried Hobby Lobby and found some that were much more reasonably priced.
We ironed on the letters for each girl’s name.
Here is what we used to make the tuto skirt for the Elsa Party Favor Bags.  Rolls of Glitter Tulle and White Grosgrain ribbon.  Our original plan was to use the Fabric glitter shown in the picture above to cover the white ribbon in glitter but in the end decided that the bags were glittery enough without that embellishment.
I tied a piece of the white satin ribbon loosely around the Elsa Party Favor Bag. Â I used this as the anchor for creating the tutu skirt for the bag.
I pre-cut strips of the White and Blue Glitter Tulle. Â I eyeballed the length, but they were approximately 20″ long.
Then I attached the strips to the white ribbon with the same technique you use to make Tutu Skirts. Check our our Peacock Costume post for detailed instructions on how to do this. I added a strip of white tulle, then two pieces of blue tulle and so on in the same pattern until I had filled up the ribbon all the way around the bag.  The tulle I used was very Glittery and the glitter got everywhere but it wiped off easily from the felt with a small paint brush.
For the last step, I sewed a piece of white grosgrain ribbon over the tulle tutu skirt to attach it to the Elsa Party Favor Bag. Â I used the sewing machine but this could also be done by hand. Â When I was done attaching the tutu skirt to the bag, I trimmed up the bottoms of the tulle skirt so that it hit evenly at the bottom of the bag.
The bags looked so beautiful  I should have made one for Nancy and myself!
Each girl at Allison’s Frozen Party got an Elsa Party Favor Bag filled with our DIY Frozen Party Favors – an Elsa Cape, an Elsa crown, Troll Slime and Frozen Thank You Cookies. Â They were a super big hit!

Simply beautiful your frozen favor party bags!
I love it! I’ll try to make them for my daughter’s birthday at december!
I hope it will be beautiful as yours!! 🙂
Congratulations from Brazil!
Thank you for the lovely compliment! We are so glad you like the bags. I hope your daughter’s birthday is a fun day for everyone!
I saw that you used 3yds of Blue Felt, how many bags did you make from that?
Hi Mary – we made 8 bags but I had felt left over.
This is a lovely idea! I want to give it a try, but had a question. Each piece of tulle that is attached, what is the approximate size of that? I read that they are 20 inch long and you used 10 on each side, but what is the width? Is it cheaper to purchase the rolls or by the yard?
The tulle on the spools is 6″ wide.
Hi! I just LOVE these bags and will ATTEMPT to make them for my daughter’s birthday coming up in May. I am about to gather all the supplies and wanted to find out how much Blue Felt you purchased? I saw you purchased 3 YD on the Olaf…
I bought the same amount (3 Yards) of the blue felt but I had some left over.
Ok, one last question. How wide should the tulle be? I see where it’s 20 in long but how wide do you cut it?
Hi April, We used the tulle that comes pre-cut. The spool is 6″ wide.
These are fantastic!! I am going to try to make them for my daughter’s birthday, the straps are 1 1/2″ wide. Could you tell me how long they are though? Also, did you use a bold or the individual pieces of felt? Thank you!!!
Thanks! We are glad you like the bags. Each strap was 16″ from end to end.
These are adorable! I’ll be making them for my princesses birthday next month. Was your tulle 6″ wide? At first glance, I was thinking 3″ but I can’t find it anywhere in the light blue.
Hi! I’m glad you liked our Elsa bags. Yes, it was one of those traditional 6″ spools.
Hello, i love all of your frozen birthday party ideas. My little girl’s birthday is this weekend and i am going to do everything on your list. What would you say the average cost per goody bag was? Not including the goodies.
Hi Merba! Thanks for the nice compliment about our party projects! Felt is relatively inexpensive and you don’t need very much of it. The tulle is the most expensive supply that you will need – I used approximately 1 small roll of glittery blue and 1/2 roll of glittery white per Elsa bag. We got this tulle at Michaels but we had a good coupon. If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, tulle is a lot cheaper there. You could also use non-glittery tulle and save some money that way.
Hi. I think these are absolutely adorable and would love to make some for my daughter’s Frozen birthday party in January. She’ll love them! I was wondering how much tulle you used to go around one bag (or just how many pieces of tulle you tied on, then I can multiply that by the 20″ length)? I’m just trying to figure out how much tulle to order. Thanks!
Hi Julianna – Thanks for the nice compliment. We were so happy with how they turned out and the girls at the party loved them. I used 20 strips of tulle for the tutu skirt on each bag – 10 on the front and 10 in the back.
