Christmas Star Pretzel Bites
In July, when Nancy and I were putting together my niece’s Frozen birthday party, we made the cutest Snowflake Pretzel Bites. We were joking that since they were so cute we should repost them again at Christmas. As we were talking about our Christmas projects we revisited the idea. Since it seemed like cheating, we decided to do a new red and green version of this yummy sweet and salty snack. The Christmas Star Pretzel Bites were just as cute as the originals. We are so glad we decided to redo them.
How to Make Christmas Star Pretzel Bites
You will need:
- Hanover Pretzel Snaps
- Wilton Candy Melts – Red
- Wilton Candy Melts – Green
- Wilton Candy Melts – Bright White
- M&M Minis
First, the prep work. You will need one Pretzel Snap, one colored candy melt, a small piece of white candy melt and one mini M&M for each Christmas Star Pretzel Bite. You will also need to use a knife to shave off the swirl on the top of each of the red and green candy melts. This will allow the candy melt to lay flat on the pretzel snap.
First, place the pretzel snaps on a paper plate. We made six Christmas Star Pretzel Bites at a time. If you try to make too many at a time, the candy melts will start hardening back up before you get a chance to make the Christmas Star. Then place a colored candy melt onto the pretzel, bottom side up. As noted above, we shaved off the swirl on the top of the candy melt so that the candy melt would lay evenly on the pretzel. Next, cut up a white candy melt into small pieces. Place a piece of the white candy melt onto the colored candy melt as shown in the picture above. The white candy melt pieces do not have to be uniform in size. Now place the paper plate in the microwave. We heated the pretzels with the candy for 50 seconds but you might need to do some time tests in your own microwave. You want the candy melts to be melted and soft but not runny.
Here is the pretzel bite just out of the microwave. The candy is soft to the touch and moldable but it has not melted so much that it lost it shape.
Using a toothpick, pull out the four edges of the white candy piece to start creating the shape of your star.
Now pull out four more tips of the star with the toothpick.
Finally, add a Mini M&M to the center of the star. This adds visual interest and a yummy bit of chocolate to the Pretzel Bite.
That’s all there is to making these beautiful Christmas Star Pretzel Bites. This is a great last minute sweet snack idea for a party. It looks festive on the table and these sweet, salty, crunchy snacks taste great too!
