Laurie and I wanted to bake something fun and Christmas-y this year. After much debate, we came up with these red and green cupcakes in a jar. We loved the way these Christmas Cupcake in a Jar turned out, and the best part is that they were super easy to do. They would be the perfect addition to your office Christmas party.
How to make a Christmas Cupcake in a Jar
You will need:
- White Cake Mix
- Best Buttercream Frosting
- Americolor Food Coloring – Super Red
- Americolor Food Coloring – Leaf Green
- 1 pint Mason Jars
- Cookie Sheets
- Parchment Paper
- Decorating Bags
- Wilton 2D Decorating Tip
- Christmas Ribbon
- Red Mason Jar lids (optional)
We’ve made these Christmas Cupcake in a Jar a couple of times now. This time we used cake instead of cupcakes. We think the cake looks best in the Mason Jar when it is crumbled up a bit. When we made our Pumpkin Cupcakes in a Jar we used cupcakes. This time we baked a white cake with red food coloring in a cookie sheet. Same about of cake in the jar – but a little easier to handle. As you can see in the picture above we lined the cookie sheet with parchment paper before we baked it. This really helped keep the edges of the cake from browning. That’s a little tip from Two Sisters to you!
We used our Best Buttercream Frosting recipe and colored it green using Americolor Leaf Green gel food coloring.
We used one pint Mason Jars. You can get them everywhere now … craft stores, grocery stores, big box stores. We got these a Walmart. We like them because they don’t have a lot of writing on them.
Start by adding a layer of cake pieces on the bottom of the Mason Jar.
Then add a layer of the green best buttercream frosting. We used a Wilson 2D decorating tip to get a little swirl in the frosting. You don’t need to completely cover the whole layer of cake. A circle of frosting around the edge of the jar is fine.
Continue adding layers of cake and frosting.
For the final layer of frosting, add a little swirl!
We found these beautiful Mason Jar lids on Amazon. They really add a nice festive touch. Finally, we added a little bit of Merry Christmas ribbon.
We made our Christmas Cupcake in a Jar for a holiday party but we think they would also be great for a Christmas teacher gift, neighbor gift or co-worker gift.
