Our Holiday Popcorns are so popular we decided we needed to make one for New Year’s Eve! Our Black Tie Popcorn combines sweet, salty and minty all in one bite! And it looks so festive and tastes even better. It would be a great dessert for a New Years Eve Party or as a special snack for a movie night with that special someone!
How to Make Black Tie Popcorn
You will need:
- 1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels
- 2 tbsp. Canola Oil
- 1/4 cup Butter (Sweet Cream Salted)
- 3 cups Mini Marshmallows
- Mini York Peppermint Patties
- 1/2 Cup Mini Marshmallows
- Gold Sixlets or Yellow M&M’s
- Black M&M Minis.
- Chocolate Sprinkles
First make some popcorn. You can use microwave popcorn but we recommend you make it the old fashion way on the stove. Pour approximately 2 Tbsp. of oil in the bottom of a medium/large pan. The oil should generously cover the bottom of the pan. Depending on the size of the pan you use you may need to add a bit more oil. Heat the pan over Medium/High heat. Put 3 test popcorn kernels in the pan. After the test kernels pop, add 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels to the pan. Take the pan off the heat when the sound of kernels popping slows down. This could not be easier and popcorn cooked this way tastes so much better than popcorn from the microwave.
Once you have the popcorn made, salt it liberally. It is so nice to taste the salty with the sweet marshmallow coating. Make sure you pull out all of the un-popped kernels before moving on to the next step. You don’t want to bite into one of those!
Melt 1/2 cup of butter in a medium pan on medium heat. When the butter is completely melted, add 3 cups of mini marshmallows. Stir until the marshmallows have melted and they are thoroughly incorporated with the melted butter.
Slowly pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Gently fold the marshmallow mixture in with the popcorn until the kernels are mostly covered. The amount of marshmallow mixture you add will depend on how you like your “sweet” popcorn. The more mixture you add, the stickier the popcorn will be so we suggest that you add it a bit at a time, stir the popcorn and give it a taste before you add more.
Here is the candy that we added to our Black Tie Popcorn. We used mini marshmallows, shimmery gold sixlets, Black M&M Minis and Mini York’s Peppermint Patties. DELICIOUS!!!
Now pour the coated popcorn onto a cookie sheet covered with foil or a silpat liner. Drizzle a little bit of the remaining marshmallow mixture over the popcorn but do not mix it up. You will need the mixture at the top so the candy will have something to stick to. Add the candy “extras” as desired.
Our Black Tie Popcorn is going to be a big hit at our New Year’s Eve party! The salty popcorn covered in the sweet marshmallow mixture with the little minty blast from the Mini York Peppermint Patties is a winning combination! And it looks gorgeous in the bowl.
