This is the Baby Girl Crib Bedding that I made for my niece, Allison. It was also another speed knitting situation (like the afghan I made for Nancy’s Bridal Shower). One very happy day, the adoption agency called Nancy and said come to the hospital and meet your daughter and the next day Allison was home, the newest and more beloved member of our family. It was a true blessing, even if we didn’t have any time to plan a baby’s room, pick colors or in my case, knit a baby blanket :-). Nancy’s friends threw a baby shower three weeks after her arrival, so that became my assignment — tear myself away from that adorable and tiny bundle of joy for a few hours every day so that I could knit and sew a butterfly themed baby girl crib bedding set before the shower.
Baby Girl Crib Bedding with Butterfly Theme
The first thing I made was the Baby Blanket. Nancy decided on Green, Yellow and Pink (much to Mom and my consternation as we were advocating for a pink on pink on pink color theme!) as the room colors so I made a simple knit stitch blanket with stripes in the three colors.
Since I had used such a simple pattern I wanted to add some other touches to the blanket so it would coordinate with the crib bedding set that I was also sewing. I added a mitered edge trim to baby blanket in one of the flannel fabrics that we were using in the crib set. Then I covered the seam of the fabric trim with green polka dot ribbon using iron-on seam tape.
I also cut out butterflies from the flannel fabric and used fabric glue to attach groupings of them to the baby blanket.
For the Baby Girl Crib Bedding I used this Simplicity Pattern (#3795.) I made the crib skirt, the pillow, the hanging organizer and the fabric flower crib decorations.
This is the pillow. We picked out a flannel butterfly fabric for the center, a yellow striped flannel and a green polka dot fabric. The back is a soft pink cotton fabric that is also used on the bed skirt and the hanging organizer. I trimmed the pillow with pink ribbon and the same cut-out butterflies that I used on the baby blanket.
Here is the crib skirt that I made with the same fabrics that I used in the pillow.
This is the hanging organizer that looked really cute but honestly, I don’t think Nancy ever used.
I made five of these adorable fabric flowers that attach to the slats of the crib. They were so cute!
The Fabric Flowers were attached to a piece of fabric with velcro so that you could wrap it around the slats of the crib securely.
It was close but I made it, three weeks after Allison was born the Baby Girl Crib Bedding including the crib set and the baby blanket were finished in time for the baby shower!
