We love 4th of July. The family, the food, the fireworks … it is a great day. If you have kids though, there is just one hitch … that stretch of time after dinner and but before it gets dark enough to watch fireworks. So much excitement but not much to do. So Laurie and I came up with this fun (and delicious) food craft to occupy the kids while they wait for darkness to fall. American Flag Frosted Graham Crackers! We decorated our graham crackers with flags, but the only limit is your child’s imagination.
How to Make American Flag Frosted Graham Crackers
You will need:
- Best Buttercream Frosting
- Wilton Color Right Food Coloring
- Decorating Bags
- Wilton Round Decorating Tip
- White Star Sprinkles
The key to these fun American Flag Frosted Graham Crackers is our Best Buttercream Frosting recipe. You will find the recipe and directions here. We split the batch of frosting into thirds. The first third we left white. We tinted the rest of the Best Buttercream Frosting red and blue. You can find the exact red and blue food color formulas in our How to Make Patriotic Frosting post.
To make the American Flag Frosted Graham Crackers, start with a single graham cracker sheet.
Lightly cover it with white buttercream frosting.
Scrap off a small rectangle for the blue portion of the flag.
Use a decorating bag with a round tip or a plastic bag filled with red frosting (cut off a very small bit of the corner of the plastic bag) and pipe on the red stripes.
Use a knife to fill in the blue section of the flag.
Add a few star sprinkles.
Thats all there is to making these adorable (and yummy) American Flag Frosted Graham Crackers.
If you are in the mood for an easy to make Patriotic snack .. these American Flag Frosted Graham Crackers are just the thing. And what a great 4th of July activity for kids and adults alike! Happy Birthday America!!
